OK, in a bit over a week I'm winging my way to the UK for almost four weeks, so there aren't going to be any updates to the site for that long at least. However in a fit of effort I've put up preview pages for almost all the sites I've got waiting and linked them in from the map. So enjoy.
When I get back I'll see about putting actual pages up. While I'm in London I plan to make a pilgrimage to that great granddaddy of abandoned industrial sites, Battersea Power Station, so I might be putting a page on that up as well - even though it's not anywhere near Perth :)

Well, I haven't done too much on the site lately, but I have been taking more photos, and have a host of new sites to put up in preview at least. I'm also in the process of moving the site over to new hosting, which is complicating matters. On top of that I'm going overseas in a few weeks. So, not a lot is going to happen in the near future, unfortunately.
But once I get back I will be putting up some more pages. I hope.
In the meantime the government is finally getting around to doing something with the East Perth Power Station. There are a few nice shots of the interior, so go check out the site - www.eastperthpowerstation.com.au

OK, I've done a fair bit of research and foot-slogging for the site but haven't managed to put it online yet. Typically. On Saturday the 10th I was down in Fremantle so took 59 photos of the old Elders Wool Store (before my camera battery ran out). Yesterday I spent three or four hours in the State Library researching the Maylands Brickworks, East Perth Power Station and Albany Bell Hatchery. Then today I spent a good three hours criss-crossing the Maylands Peninsula taking more photos of the Brickworks (now I know what I'm looking at) and the old areodrome.
One of the reasons I haven't done much in the way of posting photographs recently is that I'm running close to the limit of my storage quota. However we're setting up a new server at work and I've got permission to host some stuff on there. So soon I shouldn't have any space problems. I'll register a domain name for the site at the same time. I'm also running out of sites in the immediate vicinity (although the Belmont Tileworks are tempting) so I should be able to spend more time working on the site than tramping around to sites. Hopefully.

A busy Saturday, a late Saturday night and an alarm ringing down the street continuously from 11:30pm to 6:00am pretty much sank my plans to get much done for the site this weekend. I did however add a contact page and re-arrange the homepage by way of compensation. Roll on the Easter long weekend!

Filled in the blank bits on the map and uploaded it. This'll probably be the last update until next weekend at least.

Fixed the map rollovers for Internet Explorer (why Microsoft can't follow the W3C DOM is beyond me) and uploaded it. Created and uploaded this updates page. Whittled the 112 odd power station photos down to about 60 I want to post (the next step is to resize them all, which will take forever :). Walked over to the Maylands Brickworks and took 70 or so photos. Created preview pages for the Power Station, Brickworks and Hatchery and uploaded them. Expanded map to include brickworks (its a bit jagged at the moment, I'll fix it up later) and uploaded it. Whew! Talk about your busy days!

Headed down to Bardon Park to scout out a back route into the Albany Bell Hatchery. Managed to find it after much scrabbling across trecherous sandy paths along the top of the cliff. Got a few pics of the overgrown garden and the buildings from the river side. Then headed down into the park to try and get a long shot of the whole site. Unfortunately there are too many trees in the way, even from the end of the jetty - I might try again at the end of winter. I did get some nice long shots of the power station though. I also took some comparison shots of the front of the site.

I went over to the old East Perth Power Station to take photos for the site. Ended up with 109 of them before my memory card filled up. I also got a bit sunburnt (it was 36° Celcius). Walked home along the river and did a bit of exploring in the marsh to the north of Banks Reserve. There's a small, semi collapsed limestone dock hidden in there, but I didn't hang around too long since by that point I seemed to be at the bottom of someone's back garden and some workmen were looking at me suspiciously. Obviously I couldn't get any photos of it, but I might go back some time.
