The FAC-H40 Beozar is a high powered rifle manufactured by the Frankland Arms Company between 2072 and 2073. One of the few mass produced mutant guns ever created it has a fearsome reputation and is highly sought after by both Scavs and firearm collectors alike.

Characteristics

The FAC-H40 was an experiment into the mass production of mutant guns. As such it was designed to deliver a massive blow over a relatively short range - although its rifling allows it to be effective at distances up to 130 metres. Accuracy is much reduced however over about 50 metres.

The Beozar has three barrels arranged in a pyramidal formation. Each has its own firing mechanism and its own trigger, effectively making the gun three rifles in one. Each trigger locks into a retracted position when its associated barrel is empty, allowing the operator to fire one, two or all three barrels at once.

The gun takes the 14mm long cartridge - the most powerful ammunition regularly produced in the Southwest.

Performance

The Beozar is arguably the most powerful rifle ever produced in the Southwest. When all three barrels are fired it is capable of completely blowing off an auroch's head at a distance of 80 metres. This kind of firepower is necessary to deal with some of the larger mutants encountered in the Radlands.

The chief criticism of the weapon is its kickback. The kick from firing one barrel is substantial, and when all three are fired it is capable of breaking an unprepared firer's arm. Some critics have also complained about the lack of a magazine for repeated fire, Scavs however point out that mutant guns are generally single shot weapons only, and as such the H40 is a notable improvement.

Production

Production of the FAC-H40 Beozar was an experiment by the Frankland Arms Company, to see if Scavs would purchase a mass produced mutant gun. Although sales were reasonable, the project was judged uneconomic and production was shut down after six months. The FAC-H47 Bethlehem rifle (first produced in 2074) inherited many of the Beozar's features, although in a smaller, one barreled design.

Popularity

Only eighty-four of the guns were ever produced and (given their intended market) many have been lost in the Radlands and Desert. This rarity makes them a favourite of collectors and a well maintained Beozar can swap hands for several thousand rings.
