Rottnest Island is a heavily contaminated island around 20 kilometres west of the Fremantle Detonation Zone. Heavily militarised in the run up to the Great War it is said to be riddled with tunnels, many of which were apparently used to store chemical and biological weapons. The ruins of large gun emplacements are present on several of the island's hills and are though to have protected the port at Fremantle from naval assault.

Much salvage is said to remain, however leakage from the tunnels has left the island and its surrounding waters highly contaminated. Conditions on the island are said to be as hazardous as the worst parts of the mainland Radlands.

The island has been explored by Scavs on numerous occasions and was notably visited by the PRS Resurgam in December 2075.

There is some debate among historians of the War as to why Rottnest - despite its military significance - was never attacked with a nuclear strike. Some theorise that the missile that struck central Perth was intended for the island but went off course.
