Breaksea Island is the southernmost of the two major islands in King George Sound near Albany.

Barren, rocky and steep it stretches for almost three kilometres east to west with an average width of around 400 metres. The highest point is around 70 metres above sea level. The only landing point is a small jetty on the northern side - landings here can be hazardous even in fine weather.

A short, stone lighthouse on the island guides ships into Albany. Originally constructed prior to the war it has been refitted to burn whale oil. A crew of three from the Albany Port Authority maintain the light, serving two week shifts at a time - not a popular posting.
