Albany is the capital of the State of Porongurup and is the largest city in the southwest - possibly the entire world. A major trade and manufacturing center, its official population is 6000 as of 2092.
Geography
Albany is located on the north side of Princess Royal Harbour on the south coast of the State of Porongurup. The city proper lies between the hills of Mount Melville to the west and Mount Clarence/Mount Adelaide to the east. The main thoroughfare of York Street runs between the peaks down to the harbour, with the city spreading onto the lower slopes on either side. The northern boundary is marked by a series of city farms.
The city's port facilities are located on the south side of Mounts Clarence and Adelaide. The suburb of Middleton lies on the north side of these hills, facing King George Sound to the east, and city farms stretch northwards along Lake Seppings towards Emu Point. To the north of Mount Melville are the outlying suburbs of Mount Melville and Weerlara Junction.
