Bremer Bay is the capital of the State of Pallinup. One of only two official settlements in the state it is the smallest of the state capitals and the most easterly and isolated settlement in the Southwest - located only 12 kilometres from the Gairdner River. The official population as of 2096 is 175.

The economy is based around fishing and salt production. Local currents bring huge schools of fish close to the coast, and the town exports large quantities of dried and salted fish to the eastern settlements. The fish are air dried, which gives the town (and - some claim - the inhabitants) a distinctive odour.

A series of large solar ponds at the mouth of the Bremer River produce sea salt which is exported across the Southwest.

Notable town facilities include the harbour and the Council Hall where the 20 member State Congress meets monthly. There is no official Southern Union office, but the Council Hall is connected to the telegraph network via Boxwood Hill, and messages can be sent and received by the public for a small fee.
