The Dead Forest is a huge expanse of dead and rotting trees overlooking the Perth Detonation Zone from the west. Said by Scavs to posses an atmosphere of oppressive and ominous dread, it is avoided as much as possible.

The forest is located on the high bluff of the Black Cliffs overlooking the Lagoon of Death. Close to the cliffs are just burnt stumps, further west are felled trunks, and finally upright (but dessicated and very dead) trees. Navigation is difficult and confusing, it is deceptively easy to wander in circles for hours, and end up somewhere completely different to that expected. In addition what wildlife exists in the Detonation Zone tends to live in the forest, making visiting it even more hazardous.

A number of sites are known within the forest, although its disorientating nature makes locating them difficult.

  • The Strip - a long, cleared strip over a kilometre long in the heart of the forest
  • The Dead Pond - a shallow stone lined pool at the east end of the Strip
  • The Dragon's Swamp - a marshy bowl at the west end of the Strip
  • Numerous foundation ruins exist along the top of the Black Cliffs
  • A number of heavily damaged sculptures and monuments are scattered through the forest
  • The legendary Water Tunnels are supposed to run under the forest

Very few Scavs will enter the Forest during the day - unless attempting to 'name the dragon' - and none at all at night.
