State of Leeuwin

The State of Leeuwin (or State of Blackwood) is a theoretical State to the west of D'Entrecasteaux, comprising of the southern section of the Warlord Realms and the Leeuwin Wilderness.

Around 2061 the town of Alexandra Bridge in the southern Warlord Realms established a strong militia capable of defending the town against raiders, and a democratic system of government. By 2063 the area under the town's control had expanded, and the nearby settlement of Karridale had signed a treaty of co-operation. All signs suggested the influence of the town would continue to expand, and the creation of a fully governed territory was expected by the early 2070s. The four States extant at the time were enthusiastic about this prospect, and began to refer to such an entity as the "State of Leeuwin" or the "State of Blackwood".

However the nascent Alexandra Bridge government was shattered by the arrival of the Satellite Plague in mid 2067. The Leeuwin region was hit extremely hard, and heavily depopulated, with raider gangs from the north moving in to fill the void. Hopes of statehood were eliminated and Leeuwin became simply part of the Warlord Realms.

When the Treaty of the States was drafted in 2070, a provision was included for Leeuwin State to join at a later date. This provision stands to this day, although the depopulation of the southern Warlord Realms and creation of the Leeuwin Wilderness in the War of 2081 makes any state developing in the region unlikely in the forseeable future.
