State of Stirling

The State of Stirling is a theoretical State north of the Stirling Range, encompassing part of the eastern Settlements.

When the Treaty of the States was drafted in 2070, a provision was included for the eastern Settlements - under the leadership of Borden - to amalgamate into an organised State. The state was expected to extend as far westward as Tambellup, and to the Desert north and eastwards, and was provisionally named "The State of Stirling".

The reaction of Borden and the other Settlements to this suggestion (interpreted as a suggestion that Borden would like to "take over" the other towns) was not positive, and relations between the States and Settlements were soured for several months. The crisis was resolved when the wording of the treaty was adjusted, and official diplomatic apologies made.

The treaty as signed still included a provision for Stirling, but it was made explicit that such an entity could only come into existence by the efforts of the people of the Settlements, and that the States would not seek to bring this about in any way.

It is not expected that the State of Stirling will materialise any time soon.
