King George Sound and Surrounds

The Flinders Peninsula near Albany separates the Southern Ocean from King George Sound and Princess Royal Harbour.

The peninsula runs south-westwards and is around twenty kilometres long and three and half kilometres wide for most of its length. The south side - facing the ocean - is rugged and lined with tall cliffs, the north side is gentler, descending gently to the Sound and Harbour. The west end is linked by a short isthmus to the 230 metre massif of Flinders Head.

The smaller Vancouver Peninsula, separating Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound, sprouts from the north side.

Communities and facilities on the peninsula include Pagoda Point, Frenchmans Bay and the Frenchmans Bay Whaling Station.
